What is HHC?
Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) is a hemp derived cannabinoid similar to Delta 8 THC and just like Delta 8 THC, HHC is naturally occurring in the cannabis plant, but in very small amounts. This means HHC needs to be further derived from the plants in a lab setting by skilled chemists. This gives chemists a sizable amount of HHC to work with, and ensures HHC products are pure and safe from potentially harmful chemicals.
HHC isn't one of the new hemp derived cannabinoids. In fact, HHC was first discovered in 1944 by American chemist Roger Adams. Adams added hydrogen molecules to Delta 9 THC derived from a high potency cannabis sativa. This process is called hydrogenation, which saturates the chemical structure with hydrogen. Adding hydrogen to THC in cannabis oil converts it to HHC, a cannabinoid analogues which can have a number of applications.
Hemp derived cannabinoids
Our HHC products are made from hemp derived CBD. Therefore, it doesn’t contain THC. And at no point in the hydrogenation process do any 3CHI HHC products go over 0.3 percent Delta 9 THC. Because our HHC products contain no more than 0.3 percent Delta 9 THC, they are federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, which legalized hemp plant products containing no more than 0.3 percent Delta 9 THC.
When looking at HHC’s molecular structure, it looks like other hydrogenated cannabinoids. There aren’t any double bonds found in the chemical structure. Hydrogenation breaks down the double bonds within the molecular structure and adds in hydrogen. With the extra hydrogen atoms, HHC becomes more stable. HHC has a longer shelf life and is less likely to break down and lose its potency.
How Does HHC Work?
Although they are structurally different, naturally occurring HHC and THC act similarly to each other. Both are hemp derived cannabinoids and comparatively HHC (made from hemp derived CBD) is commonly reported to have effects in between those experienced when using Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC. Users often report a more energetic and euphoric feeling than Delta 8 THC with less paranoia in comparison to Delta 9 THC.
However it is important to NOTE that there are no long-term, definitive studies on the effects of HHC, and everything that follows is based on reported firsthand user experiences with HHC and is provided as information only. It’s a more comfortable medium for those wanting a little more than Delta 8 THC offers but not as much as cannabis marijuana.
Is HHC Legal?
HHC, like Delta 8 THC, is hemp derived. This makes both cannabinoids federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. Unfortunately, just like Delta 8 THC, HHC is not available in all states based on other hemp-related laws. While there aren’t any laws specifically against the sale and production of HHC, it’s reasonable to assume the states that have banned Delta 8 THC sales may also ban HHC.
In other states, there should not be a problem finding HHC products. Be aware! Laws regarding the cannabis and hemp industries can change suddenly.
